The Little Light Midwest Musicians will present a guest violin recital on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 PM at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts (Schumburg, IL). Violinist Yoo Mee Kim, a professor at Dongduk Women’s University in South Korea will perform music from Norway, Poland, and Korea: Edvard Grieg’s Violin Sonata in G major, Henryk Wieniawski’s “Faust” Fantasie, Teddy Niedermaier’s Milyang Arirang, and MIsook Kim’s Joy of Ongheya. SINGING for HEALING: Group Singing Class for Seniors, September-December, 2023

Chunyeon Kim Ryu led a group singing class project for seniors at Niles Nursing & Rehab Center. 20+ seniors participated in the singing classes weekly and enjoyed songs from their homeland.

Hopeshare Community Concert - May 14, 2023

The Little Light Midwest Musicians sponsored the 2nd Hopeshare Community Concert held at Herrick Chapel, Judson University. Our Ethiopian/Eritrean children and teens group performed piano ensemble pieces: Little Light of Mine, Lord I Need You, Ode to Joy, Jesus Loves Me, and Our God Is So Big. Six community groups of children and teens participated in the concert: Boys & Girls Club of Elgin, Tensae (Ethiopian/Eritrean) Church, Karen Baptist Church of Western Chicago, Karan Baptist Church in Wheaton, Olive Church, and M4G (Move for God, a faith-based teens dance team).

Community Concerts for Seniors - Spring 2023

Two pianists of LLMM, Sarah Mayer and Ahhae Song shared their piano ensemble music with the seniors at the Monarch Landing (Naperville, IL) on February, 2, 2023. They performed Galop-March by Lavignac.

Baritone Ghibong Kim of LLMM shared his musical gifts with the seniors at the Friendship Village (Schaumburg, IL) on February 24, Friday, 2023. The audience loved Beethoven’s Ich Liebe Dich, Cesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus, and the musical theater song, You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Pianist Ahhae Song formed a Piano/Clarinet/Cello ensemble and gave their first concert at The Greens of Elgin (Elgin, IL), supported by the Little Light Midwest Musicians. Named CON FUOCO, the Trio’s repertoire for the cocnert ranged from Beethoven’s Trio, Op. 11 to such favorite melodies as The Swan, Vocalise, Traumerei, Gabriel’s Oboe, Salut d’Amour, and It Is Well with My Soul.

Father’s Day Concert for Seniors - June 16, 2023

The Littlle Light Midwest Musicians presented a Community Concert for Seniors at Elevate Care Niles, IL. Ahhae Song, Sarah Yun Mayer, and Chunyeon Kim Ryu performed C.S. Variations, Libertango, and more classic piano duets and songs.

  • A $2,400 grant was awarded to the Little Light Midwest Musicians from the JCS Arts, Health, Education Fund of the DuPage Foundation. The grant is to support group piano instruction for immigrant children.

  • The Little Light Midwest Musicians presented a concert, “Forgotten Voices: Women Composers’ Music” at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts (Schaumburg, IL). Soprano Junghwa Park, a voice professor from Eastern Illinois University performed seven lesser-known women composers’ compositions in collaboration with Sarah Mayer (piano), Hyounkyoung Kim (piano), JinUk Lee (baritone), Jean Lee (flute), and Woosung Jung (Korean bamboo flute).

  • Fifteen Ethiopian children showcased their piano work at the HopeShare Community Concert hosted by Judson University (Elgin, IL). In the Fall 2022 semester, their weekly group piano lessons were conducted at the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church (Winfield, IL). Special Thanks to the COSLC and Judson University for allowing to use their facilities and instruments.
