Music Together with Seniors
A variety of participatory workshops and performances were hosted at senior communities around the northwest Chicago suburbs, including Arlington Heights, Lake Barrington, East Dundee, West Dundee, Geneva, Naperville, and Elgin. These activities were led by students in the Master of Arts in Community Music Program at Judson University and focused on singalongs; percussion activities; performances of classical, folk, and holiday music; and musical storytelling. Supported by a Creative Catalyst Grant from Illinois Arts Council.

Singing for Healing
The singing classes for seniors led by Chunyeon KimRyu extended its activities to a new place, Grosse Pointe Nursing Home in March 2025. Both the Niles Rehab Center and the Grosse Pointe hold 25-30 seniors weekly and enjoy singing folk, popular, and religious songs of their era. Supported by a Creative Catalyst Grant from Illinois Arts Council.
Onnuri Chamber Orchestra Concert
Little Light Midwest Musicians partnered with Judson University to host a free community concert featuring members of the Onnuri Sarang Chamber Orchestra on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 7 p.m. in Herrick Chapel. This traveling ensemble is a subset of the larger, 35-member Onnuri Sarang Chamber Orchestra, which was established in 1999 at Onnuri Church in S. Korea. The Orchestra is comprised of musicians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The quartet performed a fun variety of music, concluding with several participatory songs. Supported by a Creative Catalyst Grant from Illinois Arts Council.
Group Singing Class for Rohingya Children
Children ages 5-7 from Rohingya refugees gather together and enjoy singing at The Chicago Public Library Northtown Branch, every Saturday from 2:30-3:30 PM. Dr. Jungmin Lee leads the group and two student assistants help the children to engage in the various musical activities. Supported by a Creative Catalyst Grant from Illinois Arts Council.
Group Piano Instruction for Ethiopian Children
The LLMM continues to provide group piano classes for Ethiopian/Eritrean children at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Winfield. Supported by JCS Arts, Health, & Education Grant from DuPage Foundation.
Group Violin Instruction for Karen Children
Group violin instruction for Karen children. The lessons were taught by Joshua Myazaw. Supported by JCS Arts, Health, & Education Grant from DuPage Foundation.
Children! Sing Across Cultures Concert
The LLMM presented its second annual music festival for children from ethnic minorities on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Calvary Community Church in Schaumburg, IL. This concert featured performances from Ethiopian/Eritrean, Karen, Mongolian, Romanian, and Rohingya/Pakistan/Afghanistan/Kirghizstan groups. These groups performed and shared their music, language, and food together.
